The game against Wilbraham

The game against Wilbraham, last Friday, was very important for the Tabor basketball team. The team worked really hard for that game because we knew that they are going to be a difficult team to beat. Our coach, Mr. Corliss, prepared us for that and he also said that they are a very wild and aggressive team. He was right!! The game started out slow. Danquah and Cliff led Tabor with couple of points. Their coach was running and yelling down the sideline. He made his players run even more. With the constant pressure on the referees Wilbraham had a slit advantage.
At a half time we were down by 2! Mr. Corliss was mad but at the same confident because we are the better team. The gym was full of fans and everything was ready for a second half. The second half started. There always two players around me. It was very hard to play.
At on point their canter pushed me and he got a technical foul! Their coach was furies. I had two foul shots with only a minute left on the clock and a 2 point led. I made both. We had the ball again. Cliff passed it to me. In less then two seconds there were three players around me. On of the players pulled my hand down and I was on the line again. I had two foul shoots and I made both. The Gym was going crazy, but so did the other team. One of the players even wanted to fight the referee. I have never seen somebody doing that. Another technical foul and the player that tried to fight was out of the game. At that point the other team was screaming at referees. Nobody knew have is the game going to end. I had another two foul shoots. I made both. We were up by eight now. It is hard to believe but the other wasn’t even playing basketball any more. They wanted to fight with us and the referees. The gym was going wild. The game had no purpose any more. Referees left the court with 32 seconds on the clock. W is a W. I found out later that two guys got arrested by Marion police for trying to fight freshmen’s! Referees had to hide from other players and our coach was trying to calm everybody down! Three hours later I was still thinking about that game and how did that happened.
There is no explanation for that kind of behavior. Those guys are lost in fair play.
P.S. the next day we had another game, against Deerfield and we won again. Playoffs are very close

Tabor Basketball Team

Last year was the worst year in Tabor basketball history. We finished the year with 1-18, we lost 7 players (some of them got expelled, some of them left, and some of them graduated), and nobody expected anything from us for the next year. It was not like that at the beginning of the year, at the contrary, a lot of people expected at least playoffs from us, but we failed terribly. I was ashamed and disappointed. To be honest I was not expecting any changes for the next year, but…Everything changed this year.  The team is young and we work hard every practice. We have 4 sophomores and 5 juniors so I can proudly say that the basketball team is going to be “sick” next year!! Our record this year is 6-6! We still have a big chance to make the playoffs and the team is looking great! Two players, among the others, deserve to be recognized as leaders. Their names are Cliff and Danquah, and they both had great seasons. Kayin, Jesse, Kevin and others also deserve to be mentioned. The team also has a new assistant coach. Mr. Hrasky is a great coach and the right hand of our head coach, Mr. Corliss, who did a great job making and leading the team. They make the great duo and I hope they are going to stay together next year because this team has a great potential, and I am proud to say that I am part of it.It is going to be a sad moment for me when the last game comes because I really enjoyed playing for Tabor.  I will also take this time to remember players that left us early, to show them how they were wrong and how this team has a lot to offer.Hard work, hard work, hard work, and some talent. That is the recipe for success. Mr. Corliss and Mr. Hrasky are following that recipe and the future is bright for this young basketball team!

5 women killed in shooting,gunman at large;safety

“There is no imaginable justification for the deadly and random violence that stole those innocent lives in Tinley Park today,” Gov. Rod. Blagojevich said in a statement. 5 women were shoot and killed today by a gunman who is still at large. The authorities in this little town, southwest of Chicago, are doing everything possible to find him.My blog today is not about the shooting, even though it’s really tragic the way these women died. My blog is about security and safety. Are we safe in Marion? Are we safe anywhere in the World today? I would love to say yes, but my answer is no! Why? A man walks in to the mall with a gun, kills 5 young women because the robbery went wrong, he walks out of the mall, and now we can only pray that police is going to find him! All of this happened in a town that is safe and quiet. What about New York or Los Angeles?  “Usually, if you drop your wallet out here, someone will hunt you down to get it,” Ms. Jackson said. “This is a place where if you left your purse in your car, nobody is going to go bust out your window or anything. But, Ms. Jackson added, the shootings Saturday would be sure to change attitudes. “Now we’re going to be a little more on the alert,” she said. (www.nytimes.com).  It is little too late for those 5 women.  Should we live in fear? No! Should we give up? No! Could anyone predict Virginia Massacre last year? Maybe… Probably not… Is there going to be another massacre in next few years? Who knows? What makes a person kill and destroy? Most of the time their only excuse is a bad childhood. I was raised in a war and I saw some scary things but you do not see me going around killing people. As a matter of fact that only made me appreciate life more than others. What makes a man run for his life after he destroyed 5 families? What kind of monster cares for his own life after that? I do not have answers on these questions. If you do, help me understand!
